The coronavirus (COVID-19) disease has spread all over the world infecting millions and killing thousands. Governments have taken unprecedented measures to tackle the outbreak of the pandemic including imposing draconian lockdowns and strict social distancing practices. In response to COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh government, businesses, family and citizens had to take drastic actions and there is staggering evidence of its impact on the economy, jobs and lives of the people. The world has entered into recession as declared by IMF, the deadly pandemic is causing an economic fallout that may drive millions into poverty and further increase inequality. The Government of Bangladesh have taken welcomed approaches to protect people along with measures to prevent the pandemic disease from spreading, offer relief packages for the poor under the “Ghore Pera” programme, halted the loan reclassification for those unable to pay loans or micro-loans, provided tax exemptions for importation of much-needed kits, PPE and declared stimulus package for the RMG and other affected sectors.
